What is an ISP?
An ISP (Internet Service Provider) or an IAP (Internet Access Provider) is a company that provides the subscribers an access to the Internet. ISP has long cabling and maintains network service in order to transfer and deliver web contents for their paying subscribers.
An ISP may focus their services on DSL, cable modern, wireless, and high-speed interconnect (T1) or Fios (Fiber Optic Service). However, ISP still provides dial up internet service, which is gradually out of service in the future.
There are many types of ISPs that provides varying levels of service, coverage, and personal customer service.
For users, it is recommended to do research before selecting an ISP. Price may be the first thing to consider. The second thing is speed of connection.
The slowest service is dial up internet service. It has a maximum rate of 56.6 kilobits per second.
The mid-range speed is cable internet or DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) service. It has 128 kilobits per second and also 3000 kilobits per second. This is sufficient for all home user and business owner.
