What is Internet Anonymity?
Internet anonymity is the method for sending message and doing business via the Internet without revealing the true identity of its user. Internet anonymity includes personal information, computer information and location.
To keep Internet anonymity means to use the Internet without giving anyone to trace web activities and personal information.
When a user surfs the web, cookies are sent to web browser about a site or page that have been visited. And cookie text is stored by the server and sent back every time the particular web page is revisited. It makes page downloading faster. But cookie contains specific information about user, such as: preference, passwords, login usernames, and shopping cart information. For this reason, cookie is considered as privacy risk by Internet user. And it is often disabled by many computer owners before they start browsing the Web.
With Internet anonymity, it allows Internet user to participate in the forum and express their viewpoint freely without worrying of being discovered or tracked, harassed or ridiculed. For example, in a medical forum, the patients are free to ask medical questions to doctors or other similar medical afflictions.
Another example is witnesses and reports feel comfort to offer their testimony in reporting of illegal activities and criminal behavior via the Internet.
However, Internet anonymity may be abused by some users to sent SPAM, unsolicited email. Anonymity also protects criminals and sexual predators from being discovered. And they use the forums or discuss group to target their prey.
In conclusion, users can use anonymity to protect their preference, IP address, personal information. It is common to disable cookies or delete cookies at the end of browsing session.
