ISDN (Integrated Service Digital Network) is the original high-speed internet service. ISDN also used phone line.
ISDN is an improved version of dial-up service. And it leads to the development of DSL and cable thereafter.
ISDN, like dial up connection, is gradually replaced by faster and cheaper connection of broadband service.
ISDN is a telephone-based network system that uses circuit switch. There are two types of ISDN services: basic rate line (up to 256 kbps) and primary rate line (up to 1,544 kbps).
In conclusion, the advantage of ISDN lies in data line that can provide constant data speed. It also allows for multiple data transmission where calling and data downloading can occur at the same time. The disadvantages, however, are speedy data transmission and clarity of voice comes with extra cost. It comes with phone line charge and internet charge.
